BACK AT THE BALLET BARRE
This past year I’ve been so focused on getting my business off the ground that I’ve totally neglected myself, my interests and hobbies. I finally decided to carve out some time just for me and start ballet again.
After a 20 year hiatus, it feels wonderful to plié, grand jeté and rond de jambe again. My legs feel stronger and my back is straighter; and for two hours a week I only think about my turn out and standing tall. I get a break from my business, my baby and everything else that occupies my time (and thoughts) otherwise.
Taking ballet in a small Tuscan town means I’m in a class with teenagers. I got a few awkward stares in the beginning but they've gotten used to me. And I try not to notice how much more flexible they are! Maybe adult classes will take off here as they’ve done in NYC, L.A. and other big cities; probably not for some years though.
What I've come to realize after having Dafne is that I have to take care of myself before I can nurture my family, so no more guilt and no putting it off 'til the new year. A big thank you to my wonderful husband Duccio who takes care of my baby while I'm back at the barre.
