Last week we wrote about our top services for breastfeeding moms. This week we’ve rounded up our top 10 favorite products that make breastfeeding easier. From the latest breastpump to absorbent nursing pads, we’ve got you covered.
Our philosophy at Teat & Cosset is buying products made with care and meant to last. We think you'll love this list:
1) Bamboobies Nursing Pads
Unless you want wet stains to show through your shirt, you should get a supply of nursing pads to wear in your bra. We love these ultra-soft nursing pads because they’re washable, which means they’re great for the environment and you’ll never run out. They have overnight pads as well which are for heavier leaking especially during newborn nursing. They are ultra thin to prevent lines from showing through your clothes, but that doesn't compromise their absorbability. Love the heart shaped version!
2) Oat Mama Lactation Granola Bars
These bars not only promote and stimulate milk production but they taste delicious too. The two moms who created Oat Mama pack the bars with superfoods to give you more energy, help your mood and increase your milk supply. The bars are made using Galactagogues (foods that enhance milk production) such as oats, flaxseed, brewers yeast, fenugreek and cashews to name a few.
3) Naya Breast Pump
This pump has been described as the Apple of breast pumps for it’s design and ease of use. It’s supposed to deliver more milk, more comfort, in less time. It uses water instead of air to gently massage your breasts and their soft silicone flanges are easier on nipples. And no need to look for outlets - it has a rechargeable battery thats lasts up to 180 hours. It only weighs 3lbs so it’s also easy to travel with. If this revolutionary new pump makes pumping sessions easier we think it’s totally worth the $999 price tag. Will definitely be trying this pump if we decide to try for baby #2. One of our friends is getting a Naya pump soon so we’ll have her do a review for us. Coming soon!
4) The Dairy Fairy Nursing Bra
A sexy nursing bra is no longer an oxymoron. The Dairy Fairy makes gorgeous bras that make nursing and (hands free) pumping easy. We love their Ayla black lace model and so do all the ladies who’ve given it 5 star reviews. This bra is so pretty I wouldn't mind wearing it after nursing either! Only sorry I didn't find this brand while I was nursing Dafne.
5) Lansinoh Lanolin Cream
Until you start breastfeeding you don’t realize how painful it can be and how sore and cracked your nipples can get. I remember screaming every time my daughter latched the first couple of weeks. This cream has been a lifesaver for many mothers and it is 100% safe for baby too. Plus moms (and dads) have a used it as lip balm, foot balm and for diaper rashes. It can be greasy so use nursing pads to protect your bra/clothes.
6) Traditional Medicinals Mother's Milk Tea
The herbs in this tea - fennel, anise, coriander, fenugreek and blessed thistle are galactagogues. Women have been using these herbs for centuries to help them breastfeed. Plus Traditional Medicinals makes sure all the herbs they use are pharmacopoeia grade, a standard for herbs, vitamins and drugs that ensures the right quality and the correct effect for their intended purpose. Their herbs go through a minimum of nine rounds of rigorous testing before they make it to your teabag. They seem to be pretty obsessive about quality and we like that.
7) Comotomo Baby Bottle
If you want help with feedings while you're not there, it’s important to find the right bottle to avoid nipple confusion for your little one - a bottle that mimics nursing as closely as possible. Comotomo bottles are designed with a naturally shaped nipple with a wide mount to help make that seamless transition for your baby from breast to bottle. Their bottle features two anti-colic vents to ensure good air circulation to reduce colic, spit up, burping and gas. They have 4 different types of nipple tops, starting for newborns (0-3m), which has just 1 hole to help develop your baby’s sucking and minimize choking and spit ups. Their bottles are 100% BPA, PVC and Phthalate free, plus they don’t leak and are safe in boiling water and dishwashers. I had used the Medela Calma bottle, which worked well for Dafne, but this one looks even better! We're suckers for good design and this bottle couldn't be prettier.
8) Teat & Cosset Poncho
Many mothers prefer to nurse discretely and our poncho doubles perfectly as a nursing cover. We believe in investing in few quality pieces so why spend money on a nursing cover that looks like a nursing cover when you can buy a beautiful piece that you’ll wear while nursing and long afterwards.
9) Boppy Luxe Nursing Pillow
This award winning pillow gets 5 stars from most moms. It’s versatile - besides using it for nursing, it can be used for tummy time, propping up and for feeding with a bottle. It is the perfect size and height for nursing so you don’t have to strain your neck or slouch your back. The thickness of the pillow is just right to support your growing baby. Both pillow and cover are machine washable too.
10) Baby Manager Breastfeeding App
Gone are the days of tracking your baby’s nursing times by hand. There are some great apps for your phone available and this one is free. It gets a 4.7 rating and tracks your baby’s feedings, diaper changes and sleep schedule. More than one person can share the account so your husband or nanny can log info too.
